Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

ACLS teaches healthcare providers exactly what to do in the critical minutes following a cardiac arrest in adults. With ACLS you will learn how to recognize the signs of cardiac arrest, interpret heart rhythms, manage a patient’s airway, and administer medications all while working together as an efficient resuscitation team.

What is ACLS

Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) is a set of guidelines and techniques that prepares medical professionals to respond to adult cardiovascular emergencies. It is an effective treatment for life-threatening conditions like cardiac arrest, stroke, and more.

When responding to an emergency, every second counts. ACLS trains first responding healthcare providers to quickly recognize and treat cardiac arrest, perform airway management, and use ACLS pharmacology. These important techniques are very often the difference between life and death for a patient.

How is ACLS Done?

ACLS consists of advanced techniques for treating victims of cardiac emergencies and is designed for experienced medical professionals. Healthcare providers utilize BLS, pharmacological and electrical therapy, and teamwork to improve the chance of survival of patients in cardiac distress.

I spent 15 years as a firefighter and paramedic, and ACLS is one of the most important skills I learned…
Because it gives you both the skills and the confidence to take control during cardiac emergencies. Those first few minutes of a full arrest can be unnerving for even the most experienced provider. I’ve seen firsthand how quick, decisive action can be the difference between life and death. ACLS gives first responders the tools they need to save a life.
