CPR and First Aid for Babysitters

CPR and First Aid for Babysitters

Next to school teachers, babysitters and nannies are the people that keep our children safe, when parents can’t be at home, are at work or are treating themselves to a night out. Accidental injuries, including choking and drowning, are the top causes for pediatric deaths in the U.S., and it is important for these individuals to know what to do if such an emergency occurred. Whether you’re looking to babysit for your neighbors on the occasional Friday night or you’re hoping to land a full-time nanny job, you should first look into obtaining CPR and First Aid certification.

Surefire CPR has classes focusing on CPR for babysitters and nannies that don’t require much of your time and will make all the difference if you find yourself in an emergency situation. All of our classes  include classroom instruction with an experienced medical professional using hands-on methods involving a manikin.

SureFire CPR recommends taking the Pediatric First Aid and CPR class, which is the most comprehensive CPR class for babysitters, and training takes about 6 hours to complete.

What Does the Pediatric First Aid and CPR Class Cover?

In addition to babysitters, daycare and childcare workers, parents and nannies are recommended to take this course. Students will learn:

  • Adult, child and infant CPR
  • How to use an Automated External Defibrillator on an adult, child, and infant
  • How to help a conscious and unconscious choking adult, child and infant
  • Recognizing and helping pediatric asthma and anaphylaxis
  • Basic first aid with a focus on child and infant emergencies
What Other CPR Classes Does SureFire CPR Offer?

If you’re looking for a certification that focuses more on adult First Aid,  then the CPR, AED and First Aid class might be exactly what you’re looking for. This class covers adult, child and infant CPR; conscious and unconscious choking for all ages; AED use; and basic first aid geared towards the workplace. This class is about 5 1/2 hours long.

If you wish to take CPR and AED only, then be sure to complete the CPR and AED class. Students will learn adult, child and infant CPR; AED use; and conscious and unconscious choking for all ages. Training takes about 3 hours to complete.

All CPR classes for babysitters provide same-day certifications that are valid for two years upon completion.

What Happens When the CPR for Babysitters Class is Over?

Babysitters and nannies can show potential employers proof of their CPR and first aid training and have a higher chance of obtaining a position. The fact that you took the time to receive certification will make potential employers feel confident when choosing you over other caregivers.

Top caregiver job platforms, like the widely-known Care.com, are among those who encourage babysitters and nannies to receive their CPR and first aid for babysitters training. Not only does this certification help you beat out others vying for jobs, but it equips you with the ability to save lives in a number of emergency situations.
