What is ACLS?
Advanced cardiac life support, or ACLS, training teaches skills for treating patients experiencing conditions that go beyond the need for basic life support. It is typically used by healthcare professionals who work in facilities where cardiac-related emergencies are most likely to occur. The main goal of ACLS is to keep the patient alive and improve the outcome by keeping neurological function intact during stroke, heart attack, sudden cardiac arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies.
What Is ACLS Certification?
Achieving ACLS certification requires individuals to be trained to the standard approved by the American Heart Association. ACLS certification signifies that the individual:
- Understands basic life support
- Can recognize and manage cardiac arrest and other respiratory arrest scenarios
- Has the ability to lead and support a resuscitation team
- Has demonstrated airway management skills
- Understands the pharmacology of ACLS
