Getting your whole team trained doesn’t have to turn into a scheduling headache. With group CPR training from SureFire CPR, an American Heart Association Training Site, you buy the seats once, assign the seats to your employees, and they pick the location, date and time that work for them.
This guide walks Los Angeles HR managers, office managers and business owners through choosing the right course, booking a group and keeping track of renewals.
Why Companies Train Employees in CPR and AED Use
A medical emergency can happen in a meeting, in a break room or while a customer is visiting. CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) skills help your employees act while emergency services are on the way.
With SureFire CPR, your team doesn’t need to be in the same building or train at the same time. You build an online group, and each employee completes their training on their own time and at their own pace. It’s still a good chance to review your plan: who calls 911, where the AED is and how responders will find the person who needs help.
A group training plan helps you:
- Prepare designated employees to respond in an emergency.
- Cover different departments, shifts or locations.
- Keep track of course completion and renewal dates.
- Support your workplace’s broader emergency procedures.
Know Your Workplace Requirements
Requirements depend on your industry and your operations. California’s general industry first-aid rule (Cal/OSHA) requires adequately trained first-aid personnel when a treatment facility isn’t in near proximity. It doesn’t require every office employee to hold CPR, AED or BLS training, and some industries have extra rules.
Check with your safety lead or a qualified adviser, and look at any requirements from your licensing body or building management, before you pick a course.
Choose the Right Course for Your Team
Match the course to what your employees may need to do and to the documentation their roles require.
BLS for Healthcare Teams
Basic Life Support (BLS) is built for healthcare professionals and others whose jobs call for healthcare-level resuscitation skills, such as medical and dental teams. It covers adult, child and infant CPR, AED use, choking response, two-rescuer CPR and bag-valve-mask use. After successful completion, employees earn an American Heart Association BLS Provider eCard.
Our group seats are available for AHA BLS, ACLS and PALS. You can review the BLS course here: SureFire CPR BLS certification
How Group Booking Works
- Identify who needs training
Make a simple roster with each employee’s role, the course they need and a completion deadline. A general office team and a clinical team may need different courses.
- Buy your group seats
Group pricing starts at 6 seats of any course, and you can add more seats from 1 after that. Each seat comes with its own booking code, and codes never expire.
- Assign the seats to your employees
Once you purchase the number of codes you need, you can bulk upload your employees’ emails or add them one by one to our database. They will automatically get invitations to their new certification.
- Employees pick their own time
Each employee chooses the SureFire CPR location, date and time that fit their schedule. Our locations are open 24/7, which makes it easier to cover every shift without closing the office. We have more than 200 locations nationwide, including in the Los Angeles area.
- Track completion and renewal
This is done automatically through our system. Each employee’s completion and renewal dates are tracked for you, so there’s nothing to collect or write down.
What to Expect at the Skills Lab
Employees should arrive ready to practice. Depending on the course, they will recognize an emergency, give chest compressions and breaths, use an AED trainer and respond to choking. BLS students also practice two-rescuer CPR and bag-valve-mask skills. The hands-on skills check uses an interactive manikin.
To earn the American Heart Association Course Completion eCard, each employee must successfully complete the course requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is CPR training required for every employee in Los Angeles?
No blanket rule in Cal/OSHA’s general industry first-aid requirements says every office employee needs CPR, AED or BLS training. Your obligations depend on your workplace conditions, your industry and other rules that apply to you. Check your needs before you choose a course.
How many employees can I train at once?
Group pricing starts at 6 seats of any course. If you need to train more than 25 people per course, our group sales team can set up special pricing and invoicing.
Can my employees train around different work schedules?
Yes. Every seat has its own booking code, so each employee picks the location, date and time that suit them. Our locations are open 24/7.
Can you train my team at our office?
At the moment, we do not offer in-person or in-office training. All of our training is done through the American Heart Association’s newest system, which uses an interactive manikin. Each employee completes their hands-on skills session at the SureFire CPR location that’s most convenient for them.
How long does BLS certification last?
American Heart Association BLS Provider and Heartsaver Course Completion eCards are valid for two years.
