CPR Verification Station

The new system developed by the American Heart Association is revolutionizing emergency response education.

CPR Verification Station

The CPR Verification Station is the American Heart Association’s new model for CPR, BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification—and it’s changing how lifesaving skills are taught, practiced, and verified.

Instead of relying on limited class schedules and subjective instructor evaluations, the CPR Verification Station uses simulation technology, voice-assisted manikins, and automated skills verification to deliver consistent, high-quality training for healthcare providers. It fits seamlessly into the AHA’s blended learning approach—online coursework plus in-person skills—and is delivered by SureFire CPR in a flexible hybrid format that supports same-day certification in most cases.

What is a CPR Verification Station?

A CPR Verification Station is a compact, self-contained training and testing unit developed by the American Heart Association, in partnership with RQI Partners. It combines:

  • Voice-assisted manikins that measure CPR quality
  • A touchscreen interface that guides you step-by-step
  • Automated skills verification linked to the AHA learning system

Learners complete the knowledge portion of their course online in the AHA’s blended learning format—typically in about 1–2 hours—then log in at the station, perform the required skills on a high-fidelity manikin, and receive real-time feedback on compression depth, rate, recoil, hand placement, and ventilations. When performance meets AHA standards, the system issues an official AHA eCard.

Instead of certification based on attendance, every card reflects verified, measurable competence.

A New Era of CPR Training

Traditional classroom courses have long been the foundation of BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Heartsaver CPR and First Aid. They work—but they depend on:

  • Instructor availability
  • Group scheduling
  • Manual, person-to-person evaluation

That can limit access and introduce variation in how skills are assessed.

CPR Verification Stations change the model:

  • On-demand, self-directed skills verification
  • Objective, technology-based feedback instead of subjective scoring
  • 24/7 availability where stations are installed (hospitals, clinics, universities, fire departments, etc.)

The result is a flexible, private, performance-driven learning experience that matches the pace of modern healthcare and supports the AHA’s blended learning vision: online knowledge plus in-person skills in a streamlined, hybrid experience.

How the CPR Verification Station Works

Each CPR Verification Station includes:

  • Voice-Assisted Manikins (VAMs)
Lifelike manikins with built-in sensors that measure depth, rate, recoil, hand placement, and ventilation volume in real time.
  • Touchscreen Interface
Step-by-step guidance through AHA-approved skills scenarios and prompts so you always know what to do next.
  • Secure AHA Database Integration
Performance data is recorded directly in the AHA system, and successful attempts automatically trigger your eCard.
  • 24/7 Accessibility (where available)
Stations can be installed in hospitals, schools, clinics, public safety departments, or training centers so providers can train and recertify on their schedule.

For busy healthcare professionals, this hybrid, blended learning approach eliminates classroom scheduling headaches and allows skills maintenance to happen in short, focused sessions—during a break, between shifts, or whenever time allows.

Available Certifications

Every CPR Verification Station is authorized to issue American Heart Association eCards for:

Learners complete both the online knowledge component (usually in 1–2 hours) and hands-on verification at the station. Once skills are successfully demonstrated, the AHA eCard is generated and available right away—often the same day.

Same-Day Certification with SureFire CPR

SureFire CPR makes it simple to earn or renew your AHA certification using the CPR Verification Station in a hybrid, blended learning format.

Step 1 – Choose your time
Appointments are available around the clock at participating locations, so you can schedule when it works for you.

Step 2 – Complete the online course
Finish the self-paced AHA online modules on your own device. In most cases, the online portion takes about 1–2 hours to complete, covering the latest BLS, ACLS, PALS, or Heartsaver content based on current guidelines.

Step 3 – Verify your skills in person
Come to a SureFire CPR location with a CPR Verification Station. You’ll log in, perform the required CPR skills on the voice-assisted manikin, receive real-time feedback, and complete your skills verification.

Your official AHA eCard is issued immediately after successful completion—same-day certification without sitting through a traditional class.

Benefits for Healthcare Institutions

Hospitals, universities, fire departments, and other organizations are adopting CPR Verification Stations because they improve quality and simplify operations.

Key benefits include:

  1. Standardized quality and compliance
Every skill is evaluated using the same AHA-calibrated metrics nationwide. A verified BLS card in one city reflects the same performance standard as in another. Institutions can be confident their teams meet AHA benchmarks, not just local norms.
  2. Continuous competency maintenance
Instead of waiting for 2-year renewal cycles, staff can refresh skills quarterly or as needed. Short, frequent practice sessions have been shown to improve retention, helping providers stay “resuscitation ready” at all times.
  3. Operational efficiency
Less dependence on large group classes means fewer staff hours pulled from patient care. Training can happen during slower times, between shifts, or on breaks, with minimal disruption.
  4. Engaging, enjoyable training
Staff appreciate the interactive manikins and instant feedback. They complete the online course first (in about 1–2 hours), then practice on the VAM with clear metrics—it feels more like a high-tech simulation than a lecture.
  5. Data-driven oversight
Every attempt is tracked securely in the AHA system, giving administrators visibility into staff readiness, certification status, and performance trends. Reports can be generated on demand for audits, regulatory reviews, and quality improvement.

Transforming the Learning Experience

The CPR Verification Station is not just about automation—it’s about better learning.

Traditional courses rely heavily on instructor explanation and subjective evaluation. The station’s voice-assisted system, by contrast, provides precise, immediate feedback so learners can self-correct in real time. If compressions are too shallow or too fast, the screen and audio prompts guide the user to the correct depth and rhythm.

This level of precision supports true skill mastery rather than simple memorization. It also allows for:

  • Private, judgment-free practice
  • Unlimited repetition until the learner feels confident
  • Objective measurement of what “high-quality CPR” really looks like

For organizations, this means a workforce with skills that are practiced, proven, and better retained between renewal dates.

CPR Verification Station FAQs

It’s an automated, self-service platform where you can earn or renew your American Heart Association CPR certification using voice-guided mannequins and real-time feedback technology. You complete the knowledge portion online and demonstrate hands-on skills at the station.

The certification is identical. The main differences are:

  1. You learn at your own pace rather than in a scheduled group
  2. You receive objective, technology-based feedback rather than subjective instructor evaluation, and
  3. You have 24/7 access rather than waiting for class availability.

Most students take 30 to 75 minutes to complete the online module and 20 to 45 minutes for the in-person skills check. Both the digital and in-person sessions are streamlined and timing may vary based on experience.

SureFire CPR has locations across the US and is continuing to expand. Find a class and a location near you here!

You can use it for both initial certification and renewals for BLS, ACLS, and PALS.

Zack-Zarrilli

I spent 15 years as a firefighter and paramedic…

And too often, I would arrive on the scene of someone unconscious, surrounded by a circle of people feeling helpless. Sometimes, those people would even have CPR training but lacked the confidence and experience to act.

That’s why I started SureFire CPR with my wife, Vanessa, in 2009 to change that.

To date, we’ve trained over 280,000 people and are on a mission to prepare 1,000,000 individuals to step up in emergencies. With American Heart Association-backed CPR Verification Stations, we’re making lifesaving education more accessible than ever, available 24/7 nationwide.
